Dr. Alvarez-Cruz
Dr. Alvarez-Cruz, a dedicated and compassionate physician, is fluent in both English and Spanish. Born and raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador, she brings a rich cultural background to her practice.
She earned her diploma in Family Medicine from the University of Texas Health and Science Center in Houston and further advanced her expertise by completing dual training programs in Geriatric Medicine and Wound Care/Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy at Baylor College of Medicine.
Dr. Alvarez-Cruz is proudly dual Board Certified in Family Medicine and Geriatrics, demonstrating her commitment to delivering comprehensive and specialized care.
Dr. Alvarez-Cruz began her medical career as a hospitalist, dedicating over a decade to providing care in Acute Care hospitals and Long-Term Care facilities. She excelled in guiding patients through safe transitions from hospital to home. Today, her primary focus is on clinical Primary Care, where she takes a hands-on approach to ensure continuity of care. As the Primary Care physician for her patients, she remains involved even during hospital admissions, promoting efficient and effective treatment.
Dr. Alvarez-Cruz is also deeply passionate about Wound Care Medicine. With extensive experience serving on the medical staff of Houston’s leading wound care centers—such as Memorial Medical Center, Greater Heights Memorial, Select West, and The Methodist Hospital—she is regarded as a proficient expert in the field. Her mission is to heal and alleviate all forms of wounds and ulcers, including diabetic ulcers and surgical lacerations, while working tirelessly to prevent unnecessary amputations.
As a Geriatrician, Dr. Alvarez-Cruz compassionately addresses the unique needs of older adults, providing care for conditions such as amnesia, frailty, osteoporosis, and more. She also specializes in Palliative and Hospice care, ensuring dignity and comfort for terminally ill patients.
